2015-01-29 · Students learn math best when they approach the subject as something they enjoy. Jo Boaler, Stanford University In a new working paper, “ Fluency Without Fear: Research Evidence on the Best Ways to Learn Math Facts ,” updated and published online on January 28, 2015, Boaler argues that many common math teaching tools — flash cards, math sprints and repetitive worksheets — are not only unhelpful, but also “damaging.”

It’s a belief she sees confirmed in everything from students crying over long Jo Boaler förklarar hur det traditionella sättet att närma sig ämnet kan förändras, så att elever får uppleva lärandets glädje och matematikens skönhet. (Boaler, 2009). This incorrect pathway means that they are often learning a harder mathematics and sadly, they often face a lifetime of mathematics problems. Number sense is the foundation for all higher-level mathematics (Feikes & Schwingendorf, 2008). When students fail algebra it is often because they don’t have number sense.
